One of the severe diseases which affect the health of all people is flu. Here are some tips to detect and treat the flu
Your doctor may advise a thorough physical exam, a chest X-ray and blood tests including a complete blood count, blood and sputum cultures. A nose and a throat swab are taken to detect the flu. Antiviral medications shorten the illness and make it less sever if taken before you have symptoms or within 48 hours after they appear. Antibiotics will not help to get over the flu. A yearly vaccine is given to prevent the flu in the west. This vaccine is available as a flu shot or a nasal spray. For those who are at a high risk, possible complications include pneumonia, encephalitis (infection in the brain), bronchitis, sinus infections and ear infections. In most of you who are otherwise healthy, the flu goes away within 7-10 days.
